Nya Barns

Nya is a proud member of the Snipe Clan of the Mohawk Nation within the Haudenosaunee people. Her real name translates to "She Upholds her Wings" in English. Nya is 20 years old and grew up in Akwesasne and has been dancing at the Longhouse and powwows since she could walk.

Throughout the years, Nya has participates and travelled with her family to powwows all over Turtle Island. When she dances, she is always striving to uplift other through movement, prayers and to dance hard for those that cannot dance. Today, Nya continues to travel and attend several evetns to represent not only her family but also her community.

Nya is very honoured to serve as the 2025 Head Lady Dancer in her own hometown, it was one of her dreams as a young dancer growing up. She would like to wish everyone the best of luck in both song and dance, but above all - have fun, enjoy the moment, and celebrate one another!
