Cultural Performances at the 2025 Akwesasne Powwow

Get ready to experience the heartbeat of tradition and the power of cultural expression at the 2025 Akwesasne Powwow! This year’s event will feature a variety of vibrant cultural performances and live demonstrations that celebrate Indigenous knowledge, artistry, and spirit. Come celebrate, learn, and be inspired by the rhythm, tradition, and living culture of Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island.

Tlacopan Aztec Dancers

One of the weekend’s featured performances will be by Tlacopan Aztec Dancers, an internationally renowned troupe of Traditional Aztec dancers traveling from Mexico City. Their breathtaking performances blend powerful drumming, intricate regalia, and ancient choreography to share stories passed down through generations. Learn more about this group here. The Tlacopan Aztec Dancers will host an information booth inside the marketplace and will performing throughout the weekend.

Elmbark Demonstration

Richard “Terry” Chrisjohn is a Oneida artist dedicated to preserving the traditions his family has carried for generations. He specializes in wood and stone carving and creates a wide range of traditional items, including primitive tools, weapons, elm bark containers, bone and antler jewelry, silver trade brooches, and sculpture. Alongside his artwork, Terry gives cultural presentations on the formation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the creation story, and the importance of trees and plants in Haudenosaunee culture. He also demonstrates the traditional craft of making elm bark rattles, containers, and baskets—keeping these skills and stories alive for the next generation.

Feryn King & The Akwesasne Hoop Troop

Feryn King and The Akwesasne Hoop Troop

Feryn is a Kahnien’kehàka/Mohawk artist from Akwesasne. She's a dance performer, teacher, visual artist, and an acrobatic performer in Aerial Lyra of the circus world.

She has dedicated her time sharing her love and passion of dancing with the youth. This will be the third season for the Akwesasne Hoop Troop.
